VX Racing took all 3-championship titles at this weekend’s closing round of the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Brands Hatch, securing Vauxhall as the most successful manufacturer of the modern era of BTCC. The BTCC season may have finished for 2008 but Vauxhall are continuing their search for Britain’s best undiscovered racing talent with their VXR Racing Driver of the Year competition.

With Ford and Chevrolet having recently launched off-roaders the Kuga and Captiva, Citroen has plugged to enter the SUV market with the new C-Crosser. The Citroen offers a switchable 2 and 4-wheel drive and high-tech traction control for those who do actually go off-road and a 2.2 litre HDi direct injection engine delivering a respectable 38.7mpg (Combined cycle) with a CO2 emissions of 194 g/km. Citroen do boast their innovative ‘Green’ feature; the Diesel Particulate Filter System (DPFS) which stores up and burns off particles given off by the diesel fuel before its expelled into the atmosphere – a green SUV?

The latest offering from Ford is the Kuga SUV, a small to mid-sized 4×4 off-road vehicle. Created with safety at the heart of design, the Kuga innovates safety features such as extensive use of High Strength Steels (HSS) and Ford’s Intelligent Protection System (restraint and driver aid combination). This lead to Kuga receiving an accolade of Euro NCAP awards placing the car at the top of the table in the small off-road group. The 136 PS Kuga also rates for economy and the environment with an impressive 169 g/km CO2 and the fuel consumption of 44.1mpg (combined mode), putting it ahead of the recently launched Chevrolet Captiva.
